Examples of Switchgear that can be PD Tested using TEV
and acoustic sensors:

• AIS – Air Insulated Switchgear

• SIS – Solid Insulated Switchgear

• GIS – Gas Insulated Switchgear

Motors & Generators

• PD measurements can be made On-Line using split-core,HFCT sensors around the supply cable.

• PD measurements in pico-Coulombs (pC’s).

• Automatic diagnostic of whether the discharge is in the Slot Section or the End Windings.

Transformers

• PD activity occurs in the HV bushings and the windings of MV/HV transformers and can be detected using internal bushing 'taps' or, in some cases, external TEV sensors.

• HFCT sensors can normally be attached to the earths of the MV/HV cables connected to the transformer.

• Location of the origin of a PD site can be made with distributed TEV probes on the LV and HV side, if there are suitable ‘pathways’ for the PD signals to come out of the tranformer.
